For millions, the greatest bassist of all time was the late Jaco Pastorius, who has been jamming along in the sky since September 1987. In honour of this 25-year anniversary we’ve unearthed a rarely-seen interview with Jaco from 1977, courtesy of rock scribe Steven Rosen, while Level 42’s Mark King – a huge Pastorius fan – also pays tribute. Elsewhere in this issue we’ve talked with rock and jazz bassists of all stripes, reviewed a whole raft of killer gear (from a 300-quid Music Man SUB to a mighty seven-grand Fodera) and knuckled down to bring you the best advice and techniques columns from session legends and bona fide rock stars alike. We’re also unveiling a brand-new column for new bassists called Beginning Bass, helmed by teacher and session guru Jack Stevens, and David Etheridge’s new column for readers wishing to investigate the double bass. Come on, you know you want to… It’s a tough job, but we love it. Enjoy!

Lots of interesting articles Reviewed 25 April 2022

Bass Player UK

I'm writing from Colombia. I really enjoy the magazine. Thanks guys. Reviewed 20 December 2020

Always a good read

Really entertaining view of guitar Reviewed 11 July 2019

Preferred the old reader

Although the new version has a few extra goodies like a side menu with all articles and a nicer layout, the zoom isn't as good as the old reader. With my phone horizontal the maximum zoom still has tiny lettering. It would be no good to someone who is short sighted. Reviewed 24 November 2012
