Tower Of Power recently released 50 Years Of Funk & Soul – Live At The Fox Theater in DVD, double CD and triple vinyl formats. The concert, recorded in Oakland, CA in June 2018, features both the late Rocco Prestia and Marc Van Wageningen on bass. Recordings from two shows have been cherry-picked to make the set, with the core 10-piece band and its horn section supplemented with additional horns and a string ensemble.
Bandleader and saxophonist Emilio Castillo included a cast of former ToP musicians, including saxophonist Lenny Pickett, who is now the musical director of the Saturday Night Live band; keyboardist Chester Thompson of Santana; guitarist Bruce Conte; and former vocalist Ray Greene, who also plays trombone. They join the current line-up of the band, featuring co-founder Stephen ‘Doc’ Kupka on baritone sax, longtime drummer David Garibaldi, and lead vocalist Marcus Scott.
