Athleisure gets ethical
Marrying together athleisure with sustainability, Evamoso is a clothing brand to put firmly on your radar. The eco-conscious company launched this year with a fourpiece collection, including two pairs of leggings, a vest and a long-sleeve top – the simplicity of these essentials is bound to streamline your gym kit. All four items are made from recycled polyamide (econyl), bamboo or organic cotton. Econyl is a 100 per cent regenerated nylon made from ocean waste and this fabric can be recycled, recreated and remoulded, making it a great sustainable material. Meanwhile, the bamboo used by Evamoso requires zero pesticides for it to grow and it biodegrades quicker than oil-based synthetics. “In creating Evamoso I am hoping and pushing for ecologically sustainable fashion brands to become a new norm”, says Jennifer Eva Thiel, founding director of the brand. “Evamoso is providing a stylish and comfortable option for people who care about the future of our planet.” evamoso.com
The end of commercial food waste?
Globally, a third of all food is wasted. However, thanks to a new innovative technology that is powered by artificial intelligence, the disposal of commercial food waste could be prevented. Winnow Vision, will be able to recognise different foods being thrown in the bin and calculate the financial and environmental cost of the discarded items to kitchens. Currently, Winnow develop cutting-edge digital tools to help chefs run more profitable, sustainable kitchens and this latest product is set to revolutionise food management and waste. Winnow Vision works by using a camera, a set of smart scales and the same type of machine learning technology found in autonomous vehicles. Businesses and chefs can then adjust their food purchasing decisions accordingly, reducing their spending and tackling overproduction. Food waste costs commercial kitchens between five and 15 per cent of all food purchased, with some kitchens wasting up to 20 per cent of what they buy – which is a figure that Winnow Vision hope to slash. Better still, from this month onwards [July 2019], all the glitter Primark buys for use in its own-brand cosmetics will be made from these ecofriendly alternatives – which is a great move from the retailer.
