SHOHEI OHTANI

Tim Carroll still recalls the day that inspired him to create unique images of classic trading cards. “Back in 2009, I was with my wife at a science teacher conference in New Orleans,” he says. “I picked up a magazine that included a blurb about the 100th anniversary of the T206 Honus Wagner card, and I thought ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if I could trade all of those junk commons from my childhood for a single Wagner?’ Obviously no one will make that trade, but it got the wheels turning. A couple weeks after I returned home, I pulled those cards out and began cutting and gluing. Some 996 cut cards later, I had a very crude version of the T206 Wagner.”
