ONE of the great narratives that boxing often provides is when a proven veteran is given a shot at a rising star. One last roll of the dice for greatness, as it were.
Often, the rising star has yet to prove themselves to the same degree that the veteran has, so we find ourselves questioning, ‘Will the veteran’s experience be enough to beat both the rising star and Father Time?’ This narrative was in play in two fights on the same night recently, when Devin Haney fought Jorge Linares and Nordine Oubaali took on Nonito Donaire.
