Address the garden This extension to a listed house by Ashton Porter Architects (ashton porter.com) is cleverly rotated away from the main building to put the garden front and centre – with the geometry defining a newly landscaped terrace and framing views of an adjacent valley
Reclaim the side-return Rise Design Studio (risedesignstudio. co.uk) extended to the side of this terraced home with a slim glazed structure that transforms the old courtyard area into a naturally bright inside-out living space with views of both the sky and the garden
JACK HOBHOUSE
With the UK still on lockdown, huge numbers of us are experiencing our homes from a totally new perspective. It’s a strange time, but also an opportunity to really get to grips with how well our living spaces work for us. One of the main things we’re all missing is the freedom to simply enjoy the great outdoors whenever we wish – particularly as the weather warms up and flora and fauna start to flourish. I suspect that will be the impetus for many of us to plan some home improvements, with a view to better connecting indoors and out.
