What’s new in timber frame?

Box House was designed by architects Studio Bark using its own U-Build System - a series of timber cassettes that can be assembled on-site by a self builder or their contractor

Timber innovation is a hot topic, as the building industry seeks to lessen its reliance on concrete and embrace off-site construction. Every few months, another tower becomes the world’s tallest timber building, with architects determined to prove that the ultimate sustainable material can compete against steel and concrete. That same excitement and spirit of innovation can be found in self building – from the more widespread use of engineered timber, to architects looking to deliver a more do-it-yourself approach to timber framing that could make self building more affordable.
