Residents hit by council tax rise

Householders on Arran face a three per cent rise in their council tax.

Councillors on North Ayrshire Council took the decision on Wednesday to end the nine-year national council tax freeze as they set their budget for the coming year.

Despite having to find savings of around £9.3million, the Labour led council has developed a £326m revenue budget which gives particular emphasis to two of the council’s highest priorities – the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), which is to get an extra £5.5m, and North Ayrshire’s young people.
