THE TEARS which flowed from Dina Asher-Smith in the immediate aftermath of being crowned British 200m champion weren’t any old tears. They were 12 years’ worth of tears built up and let loose after the realisation of a lifelong dream come true after little over 23 seconds.

“I’d been thinking about it so much. I don’t usually get emotional at all. When it comes to racing I’m very black and white. Do a job, go home,” said Asher-Smith, who in the wind and rain at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham clung on for victory in a modest time of 23.11, losing her usually impeccable form as she approached the line with Desiree Henry and Jodie Williams breathing down her neck.
