Christmas special

How to store your Christmas wrap

When all your gift wrapping is done, store the wrapping paper rolls in a transparent plastic garment bag and hang in a wardrobe or behind a door to keep clean and neat.

Cover clean empty Pringles tubes with Christmas wrap – they’re the ideal size to hold a batch of sweet or savoury homemade biscuits to give as gifts.

Second chance

If you’ve sealed a Christmas card envelope but want to add something, put the sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour, after which it will unseal easily.

Daily treat

Create an Advent calendar from a 24-hole mini muffin tin: Cut coloured cardstock squares to cover each hole, number them, glue strips of junk advertising magnets to the back to keep them in place and hide small treats or messages in each hole.

Be prepared

Prepare salad greens the night before Christmas lunch: Wash leaves, dry in a spinner, then pack into plastic bags (or a bowl) lined with paper towel, cover or seal and pop in the fridge.

Add sparkle

To clean silver or silver-plate cutlery, line a glass or enamel baking dish with foil, place cutlery onto foil, sprinkle with 1 cup bicarb soda, gently cover with boiling water and leave until the tarnish disappears, then rinse and dry.
