Growing Gratitude

When we cultivate gratitude in our lives, we nourish others’ hearts. By Melinda Edwards, MD

Hello, wonderful parents. On our continuing autism journey together, we will explore gratitude’s role in our lives. In my previous article, “Self Compassion: the Foundation of Transformation,” I wrote about the importance of self-kindness on our journeys home to our hearts. Gratitude and Kindness are sisters. Their mother is Love, which is what we are at our core, beneath all our defenses and walls. We are each engaged in a lifelong process of transformation, dissolving the barriers to our hearts and living more in alignment with our true nature.

When we are conscious of and intentional about our transformation, aspects of our true selves begin to spring forth and nourish others— especially our open, porous, and exquisitely sensitive autistic children.
