We’ve no time to waste
I have to state my love of cars, with 45 years of Autocar sharing space with two V8 classics in my garage and a car history that includes supercharged V8s, GTIs, V6s, straight sixes etc. However, to suggest that not taking action over the effect that ICE vehicles are having on our planet is the real folly (Your Views, 14 July).
Devastated by f loods, Germany and Belgium are experiencing what it will mean for our world – not some far-away developing country that we all conveniently forget about until it hits the news again. Climate change is now, and ignoring it won’t make it go away.
We can argue about the nature of actions that the British government takes (and I have absolutely no faith in the current one), but it does have to take action. Electric infrastructure is on almost all roads in this country; it may need a charger installed to tap into it (and probably a substation), but the basic supply is there. Hydrogen may be a future possibility, but there are a handful of filling stations in the whole of the UK, meaning it’s not a practical answer right now.
