Uhtred of Bebbanburg returns to the screen in a feature-length sequel to The Last Kingdom, based on Bernard Cornwell’s hugely popular novels. Alexander Dreymon reprises his role as Uhtred (below), a warrior for whom “destiny is all” – and, it might be added, who often finds that his own destiny involves the toughest of choices.
So it proves again. A battle for the crown breaks out after the death of King Edward – pitting rival heirs against each other, and against invaders intent on seizing power. Uhtred finds himself at the centre of events, caught between those he cares about most and the idea of a united England.
