The Bait Debate
Depending on what you read you might be mislead into thinking that 99% of the carp caught in the UK fall to only 2 or 3 different baits! Such is the hold some of the bigger bait companies have on the media by spending large advertising budgets and demanding even larger exposure for their consultants and even general catch reports. The effect of this is that many other bait companies who can't afford these huge adverting budgets simply never get their catches reported on. Hence the distorted view in some media that every fish in the country is coming out on baits X.Y of Z when in fact its quite the opposite as out TOP 10 BAIT competitions over the last couple of years have proven.
There are now dozens of bait companies, maybe even hundreds and many of them are producing excellent baits, dare I say even better baits in many cases than the big name brands. Why?, because big companies have big overheads and big bills to pay, consequently price matters. I'm not saying these baits are poor quality but lets just say that expensive ingredients would only be used at the lowest acceptable levels whereas you might get a bit extra from one of the lesser companies.
