Summer Solstice Issue
Summer Solstice Issue, but what and when is the summer solstice? June 21 is the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The summer solstice marks the beginning of the astronomical summer and occurs when the earth has its maximum tilt towards the sun. For temperate regions, the summer solstice is when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. For carp anglers it marks the time of the year when it stays light the latest, very often well after 10pm.
This month we have some cracking articles to celebrate many anglers favourite time of the year.
This month’s cover story features one of the most consistent carp catches in the country, Craig Runham. Craig first appeared in Big Carp a decade ago with his fascinating series on what was a very little known ‘ under the radar’ venue Theale Lagoon. It got the whole carp world talking, numerous forty pluses, never published before. Since then, Craig has become a family man, his fishing time cut to a minimum, but rather than reduce Craigs catch rate it has had the opposite effect. Using every precious minute to the last, often moving many times in a very short session Craig has continued to bank countless Big Carp. I have followed his career closely, gasping at some of his caches and rate Craig as one of the best carp anglers in the UK. I really hope he will spend more of his precious time writing again for Big Carp because I would love to show you some of these incredible fish.
