We’re living through an unprecedented situation, with most of us confined to our homes during the Coronavirus crisis. It’s a time for reflection in so many ways; and one of those is probably going to be just how well your house actually works for you. We’ve started our home improvements in the small back garden. Replacement shed finally up after two months of rain? Tick. Compost heap moved to the right place? Sorted. Now we just need to build a few raised beds and start planting some veg. It’s a much-needed distraction, though I doubt it’ll be long before we’re pining to change the house itself.
If you’re at the early stages of your project – perhaps dipping your toe in the water, or starting to develop plans with an architect (see page 80) – there’s still a lot you can do. You’ve put the first foot forward by picking up this edition, which is packed with advice and ideas to get you ready-to-go when lockdown ends. For instance, on page 54, we’ve picked our favourite extensions that bring the outside-in, while on page 70 we put the spotlight on how to update your bathroom. This issue also comes with a free book: our must-read Complete Guide to Windows & Doors.
