CAMPBEL TOWN Community Garden and Orchard in the grounds of Auchinlee is under threat if the care home is shut.
At a CrossReach meeting last Friday, attended by Councillor Donald Kelly and the Action Group’s John Titterton, the possibility of the Auchinlee operators raising capital by selling off the community garden was discussed.
Subsequently, Richard Kerr, Argyll and Bute Council’s chief planning officer, visited the site to assess the viability of the community garden being considered for building plots. This plan ignores the fact that Auchinlee was gifted to the people of Campbeltown by the descendant of its owner, John McKersie, and may well not be Cross-Reach’s to sell.
