A BUSY weekend at Glenralloch kicked off on Saturday with Tarbert Golf Club’s second round of the Archie MacNab Memorial Cup, played in horrendous conditions with continuous rain and wind during the day’s play. A tightly-bunched group of five players all had a chance to win this sought-after trophy with Gordon McCaffery scoring well to finish in third place on 71 points. Vice president Chris Smyth took second place with 72 points; Chris playing particularly well on the back nine. Overall winner was Bruce MacNab who shot a 70 for 37 points on the day and a total of 74. Iain Macalister, who was unable to play in the first round, had the second-best score on the day with 36 points but took the magic two pot with chip-in birdies at both the 3rd and 8th holes. Vice president Smyth presented the trophy to a delighted Bruce who thanked the hard core members for turning out on such a horrible day.
On Sunday the ladies’ section ran the mixed doubles breast cancer awareness green some with the nine teams taking part raising a fantastic £406 in the process. Lochgiphead husband and wife team of Jim and Ellie Hunter took first prize with a net score of 61.5, followed by Bill and Rona Young on net 64 and third were Ryan McGlynn and Donna McKellar on 68.5.
Ladies’ captain Rae Bleasby thanked everyone who took part and was grateful for all the donations and prizes received.
