It wasasurprise to open the March issue andsee theIkenga(below), alongwith Malcolm Batesʼletter. My involvementwiththecar, asa senior technician at Bridge Motor Works Leicester andlooking after MD Don Nelsonʼs ʻspecial interestʼ vehicles, was back in1978. We had a goodcustomer,DJ and local entertainer RickStevens, and his friend March Dale Chaplin, who had just bought the Ikenga and presented it to me to reviveit.
The chassis, suspension and brakes were abit shabby, but all complete. The 3.5-litre Buick/ Rover V8needed afunctional cooling system and most ofthe electricswereinapoor state. We made the cooling system work and rewired it using the fusebox, relays and multi-plugs from a 1977 Audi 80. The carwas resprayed in aVWTurquoise Green, apopular colour in the late 1970s.
