It’s easy to chart Yello’s decline here – 1 994’s Zebra tries too hard to repeat past glories, a determinedly zany album which is comfortably the duo ’s worst moment, despite slinky ballad Fat Cry. You sense Dieter and Boris knew that they needed to reassess. Pocket Universe lacks the mischief of classic Yello, but at least its stargazing mystery had none of Following the messy Yell40 Years compilation, Polydor offer an unexpected pleasant surprise: belatedly getting Yello’s final five albums for the label back out on vinyl. It’s easy to forgive the label’s reluctance to revisit the duo’s latter catalogue.
