On paper, it appears to be merely an album of covers. But these are no ordinary covers. The 13-minute-plus take on King Crimson’s 21st Century Schizoid Man is a stripped-down freakout, so raw it doesn’t so much decimate the original as catapult it into another universe.
Listening to their nine-minute rendition of Black Sabbath is quite something. The lysergic guitar tone of Hideki Ishima is simply mesmeric, while vocalist Joe Yamanaka howls like a demonic Asian Ozzy shrieking over the relentless chords of doom and wah-wah mayhem. Oh, and their 15-minute take on Muddy Waters’s Louisiana Blues is a total mindbender.
