Classic Van & Pick-up  |  Vol.14 No.7 BEA Bedford
CONSIDERING that Elastic Band and Stickup
is a small (relatively speaking) magazine,
has a budget about as big as a game of
Monopoly and has no pretence of competing in
the frighteningly-competitive world of the superflash
glossies, it sure does receive a big response.
Honestly, even I’m surprised at the amount of
mail we receive and also the incredible input from
readers with photos taken at shows, while out and
about etc.
It’s the same with contributors. It’s not so much a case
of what’s going in, more like what I need to leave out.
Inevitably, this does mean that there are delays in photos,
stories and letters appearing. So, if you have sent stuff in,
please be patient, I’m doing the best an old geezer can
and I do make sure that nothing is wasted.
On the subject of letters, you will see this month that
the gauntlet has been thrown down and I have been
challenged to stick a new photo at the top of this page,
on the basis that the usual mug shot is out of date. It is
and, thus, you now get a better representation of my
boat race. Yes, I know, it’s sad what a life of partying can
do to a person, even at the age of, well, put it this way,
I visited an antiques shop recently and had real trouble
getting out before the proprietor stuck a price tag on my
collar.
And now, I present you with another reminder that
the Classic Van and Pick-up Show is being staged at
Gaydon on 10 August. I make no apologies for going on
about it because I really want this to take off. If it does
then you can expect it to be repeated every year. The
world’s one and only event dedicated purely to light
commercials. A couple of people have complained that
there is an entrance fee for owners and their vehicles.
Well, I take your point, but even the likes of the Heritage
Motor Centre has a budget to work to (just like little
old me), and the charge has been kept to an absolute
minimum. So, cough up and be there. Go on, pretty
please.
