When I think of LGBT History Month as an out Asian queer woman, I reflect on the difficulties so many still experience in not being able to celebrate being their authentic self. Talking about coming out is no longer enough We need to talk about intersectionality, as being an out Asian is a multifaceted mix of culture, identity, sexuality and biases. Still the idea of coming out can induce feelings of shame and pressure from our own community to conform, and how the media portrays Asian LGBTQI people (virtually no representation) perpetuates the invisible model minority stereotype.
