This February I was in India for Mumbai Pride. I DJed there last year and met up with many other LGBTQI activists and organisations. So, I was excited to go back for the irst Pride in Mumbai since the removal of Section 377 – the legislation put in place in 1961, during the British occupation of India, that was used to make homosexuality a criminal offence.
India is the largest of the 53 countries in the Commonwealth to remove the legislation so far, with 35 countries in total that still have similar legislation in place. As it is the country of my heritage, I was keen to be a part of the celebrations now that people were inally free to love, lirt and fuck without the risk of being put in prison or bribed by the police.
