DOING IT FOR THE KIDS

Isn’t it time you gave Class a second chance? Regulars Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Vivian Oparah and Jordan Renzo, and composer Blair Mowat, tell us why they’re heading back to school…
The main characters in the 2016 TV series Class: Vivian Oparah as Tanya Adeola, Greg Austin as Charlie Smith, Katherine Kelly as Miss Quill, Sophie Hopkins as April MacLean and Fady Elsayed as Ram Singh.
Greg Austin and Jordan Renzo (who plays Matteusz Andrzejewski) are reunited at the recording of Big Finish’s Class audios in 2018.

In a street outside a West London recording studio, 25-year-olds Greg Austin and Jordan Renzo – who play Coal Hill power couple Charlie and Matteusz in Class – are posing for promo pictures. Their arms are wrapped around each other in the mid-afternoon sun. “Maybe we’d have had another season if you’d held me like that”, teases Jordan.

“Shh, you’re gorgeous”, Greg tells him. “I’ve seen your Instagram. You look like a model. I don’t know how you do it.”

It’s a Bank Holiday Monday in May, and the first time that Jordan and Greg have seen each other since 2016, when they starred together in Class – the BBC’s short-lived Doctor Who spinoff, set in East London deathtrap and, allegedly, academic institution Coal Hill. “It’s like seeing an old flame”, says Jordan, of Greg. “And now, look, he’s a big strong man.” They’re reprising Charlie and Matteusz for Big Finish’s Class revival: six audio dramas, set during the TV show’s original run.
