SOMETHING’S WRONG with the basement fish tank in Owen Kline’s feature debut, Funny Pages. In spite of its neon-yellow glow, the water is unoccupied. The fish, teenager Robert (Daniel Zolghadri) is informed by his new landlord, has been eaten by a larger fish. No further explanation is given. It’s just one of many weird details that comprise the scuzzy world of the film, which follows Robert’s rebellious move out of his family home in the hopes of becoming a leading comic-book artist.
