A new website called Family Quilt at www.familyquilt.net aims to help families collect and share stories that might otherwise be lost.
Founder Frédérique Hull came up with the idea when chatting to her 90-year-old father about his parents and grandparents, as they browsed through a box of old photos. Not only were there stories she had not heard before, but she noticed they enjoyed sharing them. Frédérique added: ‘Family Quilt has helped me get to know my parents, my grandparents and my ancestors better and also capture some of my own stories of big and little events. I hope it will help other families talk, share, preserve all those stories that punctuate their lives and their history.’
Family Quilt allows a storyteller to write or voice-record stories, which they can share with family members, and add photos or files such as family recipes. Stories are displayed in a digital quilt. Subscriptions cost £24.
