While we’ve raved about the RSV4 for the last billion years, we have noted that Aprilia has been suspiciously quiet on other fronts. This all changed at Eicma, thankfully, with the revealing of the new Dorsoduro 900 and Shiver 900. Aprilia has taken its pretty time over this, with the Shiver first seen in 2007, and the smaller of the two Dorsoduros (there was a 1200 version) out a year later. As the nomenclature suggests, both new bikes are powered by an engorged motor, now 896cc thanks to stroking the motor from 56.4mm to 67.4mm. This now gifts the bikes 95bhp at 8,750rpm and 90Nm of torque. It’s all controlled via a new ride-by-wire system (the old bike was also RBW) that offers three maps and traction control. The ABS system is from Continental. Both bikes get the same new 4.3-inch dash that’s able to be hooked up to your phone to set certain stuff. Where the bikes change is in their application – so the Dorsoduro gets longer travel suspension, different ergonomics, a taller seat height, tweaks to the frame and very funky looks. The Shiver is more of a traditional naked – but bang on looks wise. Styling changes continue to elements like the underseat cans, the lack of pillion provision on the Dorsoduro and character points like the headlights. We’re loving the looks of both bikes and can’t wait until they’re unleashed in Spring.
