1999/2000 YZF-R6

Just a year after Yamaha had shocked the world with the YZF-R1, its baby brother arrived – the YZF-R6. Claiming a staggering 120bhp with a dry weight of 169kg, the R6 was developed alongside the R1 and R7 and borrowed much of the R1’s technology, including a stacked gearbox, one-piece aluminium cylinder/crankcase design and even short-skirt pistons. Not only this, the R6’s Deltabox II frame was the first aluminium dual beam frame to appear on a supersport bike (and featured a removable subframe to please crash-happy racers) and it even had the R1’s brakes. The first true track-focused supersport bike had arrived…
