Your step-by-step guide
Indoor gardening gets a lot more inviting as the weather chills into autumn and winter. You don’t have to stick to houseplants, either: windowsills make great mini allotments, and if you pack them with salads and herbs now, they’ll keep you picking long after your garden has gone to sleep. Sow pea shoots, plant winter lettuce seedlings and pot up herbs such as chives, mint and parsley into plastic drinks bottles repurposed as self-watering planters and they’ll practically look after themselves.
