The first Pride took place in Limerick in 2001, when Paddy Doyle and Nicole Dunphy organised a festival of celebration with events in two of the city’s nightclubs. Three years later, in 2004, Cecil Street was closed off for the first street-party, and an impromptu Pride march up O’Connell Street took place, with six merry revellers.
The Limerick Pride parade proper began in 2007, with several hundred people marching on O’Connell Street.
