Part of the same plant family as cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, this veg cemented its cult status in 2014, back when Beyoncé made ‘kale’ slogan jumpers popular. For a while it was everywhere - as well awhile as clothes being dedicated to it, it was dubbed a ‘superfood’ by the wellness industry and health-seekers began whizzing it up into ‘clean’ juices and smoothies to reap its purported benefits. Seven years later, it’s worth reminding ourselves of the impressive nutrition credentials that sparked kale mania.
