Sure, Trump became President-elect and Usain Bolt bagged the ‘Triple Triple’, but the breakout ‘T’ star of 2016 has been turmeric! US scientists have shown that curcumin, the plant compound in the yellow spice, combined with silymarin, a component of milk thistle, can kill off cancerous cells. The University of Liverpool also found it can help prevent the chronic inflammation that contributes to everything from cancer to heart disease and diabetes to Alzheimer’s. While a Colorado University study showed that curcumin can help fight drug-resistant tuberculosis. And eating the spice is just as good as a supp. So add turmeric to veg-packed curries or blend one teaspoon with 250ml of the milk of your choice, a dash of cinnamon, honey and ginger, and warm gently for a delicious mug of golden latte – the health drink of the year!
