A trip to Windsor Castle to meet a senior royal can be daunting; little wonder, then, that history-making darts player Fallon Sherrock admitted to being a little thrown. In fact, the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship and 2022 Women’s World Matchplay champion told fans she’d “never been so nervous”. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Fallon, 29 (left, receiving her MBE from the Prince of Wales), said: “So proud today, for myself and DARTS… Thank you to everyone who has helped me get where I am. Very very happy.”
She was not the only trailblazing sports star to be honoured. Also invested with her MBE was former Lioness Eniola Aluko (right). The ex-Chelsea striker, 36 – who is among the all-time top scorers in the Women’s Super League and was the first female pundit to appear on Match of the Day – was joined by her mother Sileola. Posting photos on Instagram, she told her followers she was “honoured, proud and grateful”.
