JODI PICOULT
Facing book bans in the US, the best-selling author is no stranger to controversy. Her latest novel explores a woman left out of history
She is one of the world’s most successful authors, with more than 40 million copies of her books in print. Five of her novels have been turned into films and her work has been translated into 34 different languages.
However, Jodi Picoult is celebrated not just as a best-selling writer, but also as someone who is not afraid to tackle controversial issues such as gun control and gay rights in her work. Her latest novel, By Any Other Name, takes on women’s rights, telling the fictional story of a real-life unknown playwright named Emilia who may have written some of Shakespeare’s plays.
