Hot therapies, otherwise known as thermotherapies, include the application of a heat source. This causes the horse’s blood vessels to widen, in turn leading to increased blood flow to the area where the heat is applied. Greater blood flow results in higher oxygen and nutrient transportation to the area. The promotion of blood flow can encourage healing, help relax muscles and increase elasticity of connective tissue in the specific area.
