Throughout North, Central and South America, there are millions of great horned owl mothers just like this one, guarding their chicks from predators such as wildcats and racoons. For the first six months of their lives, these fluffy-yetfrightening owlets are protected by their watchful mother. During this time the mother owl will teach them the skills they need to hunt prey, such as foxes, coyotes and even other raptors.
