Jon Masters summarises the latest happenings in the Linux kernel, so that you don’t have to.
OPINION
ALL GOOD THINGS
Growing up, I was a huge fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I remember coming home from school and tuning into one of the four(!) UK TV stations to watch it. Then, one day, it ended abruptly.
I started writing for Linux magazines in 1999. I did a few reviews in Linux User &
Developer that became a regular column. It morphed over time into a kernel-focused column, which I wrote for many years. Until it came to an end.
Linux Format was then gracious enough to offer me an opportunity to write a new kernel column. I have enjoyed these past few years immensely. In a time of tremendous uncertainty and change, it has been therapeutic to have the constancy that comes from writing for you each month. It keeps me connected to my roots in the Linux community, and forces me to take time to read many of the emails sent to the Linux Kernel Mailing List (LKML).
As our time draws to an end here, I look back fondly on collaborating with Neil, a highly tolerant editor who is rightly proud of what he did here. As for me, maybe I’ll find a landing for a kernel column, but I’ll definitely do my best to bring back the kernel podcast I enjoyed making years ago. Maybe you’ll tune in.
