The first week of May in America is usually when loud hats compete with the thunder of hooves at the Kentucky Derby (now provisionally postponed to September), and when Mexican heritage is celebrated – with greater or lesser authenticity – on Cinco de Mayo. But you can still cool down, Southern-style, with a mint julep made from proper Kentucky Bourbon, or go south of the border entirely with una margarita más, por favour. Make both at home and pit them against each other in a contest for the most refreshing.
