THEBIGREISSUE Optic Nerve
Chris Parkin talks to Ian Allcock, whose Preston-based Optic Nerve Recordings is a reissue label with a love for and inside-out knowledge of 80s and 90s indie-pop…
Chris Parkin
Ian Allcock isn’t new to releasing records. After running a small indie-rock label in the early 90s, he released happy-hardcore anthem Life Is Like A Dance on his Salamander imprint. Then, destroying any neat narrative about his musical background, he reissued the entire back catalogue of 70s prog-rock band The Enid on his Mantella label, before a final recordreleasing act of the decade in 1997. Allcock put out a CD by The Vibrators’ John Ellis, who coined a new name for Allcock’s latest venture – Optic Nerve.
