The NHS is losing nurses at an alarming rate and leavers outnumber new recruits, according to figures revealed in a investigation by the BBC published last month.
The research, based on figures provided by NHS Digital as part of a Freedom of Information request, show that one in ten nurses are now leaving the NHS each year, and that more than 33,000 nurses left last year. This represents a rise of 20% since 2012-13, and means there are now more nurses leaving the profession than there are joining.
