Model Car Truck Motorcycles World  |  September 2014
Well, Gaydon is over for another year and our show report elsewhere in
this issue will give readers a flavour of the models on display, along with
the results of the competition classes.
I want to comment on some of the good and not so good aspects of the 2014 show; on the positive side, we attracted some newcomers, and several were award winners, which I hope will encourage others to come along and be confident enough to show their models; well done to those who took the plunge. We didn’t have the usual hassle with parking this year, thanks are due to Jack Windell and Robert Coles who became impromptu marshals and shoehorned 99% of the cars into the allotted space. And of course there are always many top notch models on
show to entertain everyone.
But on the negative side, there were many models pre-entered into the
competitions which didn’t appear on the day. Now you might think,‘so what’, but think a bit harder; all the trophies have to be ordered and paid for on the basis of the income predicted from entry fees. If you pre-enter and don’t bring the model, that’s an entry fee lost, and possibly a cancelled competition class. There were 45 ‘no-shows’ this year, meaning a shortfall of £60 which had to be met from somewhere else. It’s only the generosity of our sponsors, most of whom are individual modellers themselves, that keeps the show afloat. Not only that, but those no shows meant no entries in some competition classes, resulting in
wasted trophies. Finally, after considering the views of modellers, we’ve decided that the show will remain as it is now, in June, and will not be moving to September as part of the Retro Show. This seemed to be a popular decision, judging by the applause when it was announced at the end of this year’s show.
