When I started work on Model Railway Constructor in 1963, I was the third member of a team of three. I had been a trainspotter, and the railway that I enjoyed was in transition from steam to diesel. Beeching had arrived and his report was published in March 1963, heralding the end of the railway as I knew it. I wanted to model the railway that I so enjoyed, but there were few options in ready-to-run, especially when it came to diesels or DMUs.
