HELLO JANUARY 1970
I’d just done an amazing tour with P.P. Arnold and those lovely guys Ashton, Gardner And Dyke. We played with Eric Clapton and Delaney & Bonnie. That knocked us sideways, hearing a big stomping Southern rock band rehearsing in the Lyceum.
So I was – Icould use the word ‘desperate’ to find a good gig. I mean, I was hungry. Then I got a phone call. Chris [Squire, Yes bassist] said, “We’ve seen you play, do you want to come down and play with us?” I said, “Well, I’ve heard of you but I haven’t heard the band.”
