83 The Daytona 200 race celebrated its 83rd running this year. First run in 1937 on the beach/road course in Ormand Beach, Fla. In 1961, the Daytona 200 race was moved from the beach to the Daytona International Speedway and has remained there since. Roger Reiman won the inaugural race with an average speed of 69.26 mph (111.46 km/h).
