“It was us growing up and wanting to change as songwriters – it was a delicate point between being a younger teen band and being a band that can make it for 10 years then another 10.”

Having spent 2017 touring and working on their new sound, the band were ready to begin a brand-new era at the beginning of the year.

“Want You Back”, the lead single from the band’s forthcoming third album, dropped on 22nd February, debuting a poppier sound distinct from the band’s pop-punk origins. It would chart around the world, but it was the second single, "Youngblood", which would really take 5 Seconds of Summer’s new era up a notch. It would become a top 5 global track and reach number one in pop radio charts in the US, and accrue a record-breaking number of Spotify streams – it now sits at 1.2 billion at the time of writing!
