POLICE SCOTLAND’S proposals to close its control room in Inverness and establish two national database enquiry units (NDEUs) have been questioned by a leading Lochaber councillor.
The comments from the chairman of Highland Council’s Lochaber Committee Andrew Baxter, councillor for Fort William and Ardnamurchan, followed a presentation by Police Scotland to councillors earlier this week.
Councillor Baxter said: ‘I am dismayed at these proposals being presented today as if it were a fait accompli. We were promised a unit in Inverness to serve the whole of Scotland with an increase in jobs. This sudden change in position has been taken without proper consultation and public engagement.
