Despite the stresses and financial strains that the current economic climate has brought us in recent years, there is one major life event in which people are still happy to spend money – a wedding. The UK’s most popular wedding website hitched.co.uk surveyed thousands of newlywed couples last year to reveal an industry worth £10 billion. According to Brides Magazine, the average figure for the cost of a UK wedding is a whopping £24,000.

But remember, this is just the average cost, not a target for what you should splash out – many people spend less (or more). Almost a quarter of people surveyed spent less than £5,000 on their wedding. This just goes to show the vast differences in budgets – which means there is no one-size-fits all solution. When it comes down to it, it is a lot of money to spend on a single day, but totally worth the lifetime of memories you will have from it!
