The Art of Mindful Cooking
How to nourish your body and soul
“Choosing to be our own chef is the first step to becoming a mindful cook.”
The mind and body are intricately connected and nowhere is this more rapidly felt than in the way food can affect our emotional wellbeing. Too much sugar makes us ‘hyper’; too much potato slows us down and makes us sleepy; the caffeine in coffee fills us with a kind of wide-awake, go-getting (but temporary) kick; overeating makes us feel sick and need to lie down – the list goes on. These are just the short-term effects – in the long term our mental framework can be dramatically influenced by diet-related diseases, some of which may be particular to a western diet that has typically become over-refined, high in fats and sugars and low in many of the essential nutrients that accompanied thousands of years of human evolution.
