STIRRING THE PLOT
DONALD TRUMP’s newfound enthusiasm for overseas military action took the British press by as much surprise as everyone else.
The Daily Mail was left in almost as much of a dither as Keir Starmer, trying desperately to face in two directions at once. Monday’s front page described the incursion unequivocally as “AMERICA’S VENEZUELA COUP” but splashed on a supposed “revolt by Labour’s Maduro apologists”, ignoring the fact that the one thing the prime minister had managed to condemn was the imprisoned president himself, announcing that Maduro was “an illegitimate president and we shed no tears about the end of his regime”.
